Dell releases improvements for VMWare end-to-end solutions

Last updated on September 3rd, 2015 at 02:54 pm

Dell announced Monday at VMworld that it would be enhancing its end-to-end solutions for VMware from the datacenter to systems and device management.

VMware virtualization allows users to run various virtual machines on one physical machine. This is done with each virtual machine sharing the power of the single physical machine in numerous environments. It’s beneficial for enterprises because they can then replace many unused devices with several virtual hosts.

The goal of these enhancements is to enable customers with right-sized, easy-to-manage cloud, virtualization or VDI solutions to support their business needs. It will also add more VMware capabilities to its comprehensive portfolio and will continue to help solve customer challenges as well as create a simpler path to virtualized environments and the cloud.

Research conducted by Dell reveals that hybrid cloud is the future for enterprise IT. As more and more businesses migrate their IT assets to private or hybrid cloud environments, Dell and VMware plan to work together to accelerate this journey and provide simpler solutions to customers.

Dell’s Active System Manager (ASM) 8.1.1 integrates with the VMware vRealize Suite cloud management platform and enables ASM customers to integrate physical and virtual environments and end-to-end dynamic cloud provisioning within the vRealize Suite. This integration is achieved through a plugin that allows customers to embed efficient ASM templates and automation methods into vRealize Orchestrator workflows and supports prebuilt and best practice infrastructure and workload templates that can be deployed easily and quickly.

VMware introduced EVO SDDC that is designed to simply build out and be the deployment of software data centres at scale. Dell has been actively involved in its development and early beta field trials.

Dell is also building on its momentum to deliver new updates to its Dell Engineered Solutions for VMware EVO:RAIL Horizon and Infrastructure Editions.

Dell further announced its release of the latest version of its Wyse ThinOS Operating System, ThinOS 8.1., a virus immune thin client operating system designed to deliver high performance desktop and application virtualization protocols, including VMware Horizon.

The key features include expanded security features, better connectivity, enhanced support for healthcare and easy management.

In addition, Dell has released the latest version of its Wyse Cloud Client Manager, CCM release 8, a cloud-based management platform that manages thin clients, mobile defies and Enterprise Mobility Manager (EMM) workspaces from a single console.

“Dell’s innovative portfolio helps customers to rapidly design, deploy and manage hybrid clouds with true end-to-end solutions from the device to the datacentre with specific software, support and financial services to meet each customer’s unique journey to a hybrid cloud end state,” said Jim Ganthier, VP and GM of Engineered Solutions and Cloud at Dell.

He added “Several studies have shown the clear customer value and accelerating rate of repatriating previously public cloud-only deployments to hybrid cloud environments. Dell’s innovations coupled with our ongoing and extensive VMware partnership enable our joint customers to not only achieve the above but also deliver both business results and outcomes.”

Dell has been very confident in its cloud solutions. In August, the company went as far as saying that it could “build a future-ready cloud 80 percent faster than Cisco, and lower TCO [total cost of ownership].” Dell has been taking shots at Cisco for quite a while. as Glenn Keels admitted, the Dell executive director of cloud product marketing.

This is just the beginning of the latest offerings from Dell.

Last month, the company’s executives pitched an idea to solve business intricacy: identity and access management (I&AM). Dell would build a security portfolio that combines all of its solutions from data centre to endpoint, with I&AM an important facet of it.

Bill Evans, senior director of product marketing at Dell Software, recently said in an interview at Dell’s annual Peak Performance security conference that the company is working to integrate privileged accounts with the firewall, while a two-factor authentication would integrate with SonicWall.

Dell made headlines when it unveiled it would be bringing the Chromebook to Enterprise customers. There is no doubt that the Google Chromebook has been a major success story in the consumer market. But what about the commercial/enterprise market? Asus and Dell are helping the search engine juggernaut improve that market share.

The Dell Chromebook 13 maintains i3 or i5 processors with up to 8 GB of system memory, 16 GB of storage and up to 12 hours of battery life. Also, it offers customers a combination of 720p HD webcam, dual array mic and the IPS display. The computer will go on sale in the United States and Canada on Sept. 15 for $399.
