Last updated on August 26th, 2015 at 04:38 pm

A new Intuit study found that more than half of Canadian small- to medium-sized businesses run their companies from a smartphone. By comparison, 43 percent of SMBs in the U.S. are mobile-first in operation, as BetaKit reports.

Twenty percent of those SMB owners surveyed said they run their firm via tablets.

The report found that “small business owners operating primarily from brick and mortar locations have also dropped 20 percent year over year, down to about one-third of Canada’s total small business owners.”

Other key stats from the report:

  • 31 percent of Canadian SMBs have adopted cloud technology
  • Canadian SMB owners spend $1,000 per year on software, higher than the U.S. average of $630
  • 85 precent of Canadian SMB owners also plan to invest in software solutions in the next five years

Intuit explains its survey methodology: “From July 16th to July 27rd, 2015, an online survey was conducted among 507 randomly selected Canadian small business owners who are members of the Angus Reid Forum panel or partnering networks.”
