Apple Mail or Mac Mail is the default email client for that comes preinstalled in every Mac. It stores all the mailbox data like emails, contacts, calendars, etc., in an MBOX file. However, when users try to migrate from Mac Mail to Outlook, they are unable to do so as Outlook supports PST file format and not the MBOX file format.

To migrate from Apple Mail to Outlook, users would need to save Apple Mail emails as EML files and then import them into Outlook. They can also convert the Apple Mail MBOX file to PST file, thus making it compatible with Outlook. Workarounds to Migrate Apple Mail to Outlook

As there is no direct way to migrate Apple Mail mailbox data to Outlook, you can either save its emails as EML files and open them in Outlook or convert the MBOX file to Outlook PST format and import it into Outlook. Let’s look at both methods in detail.

Method 1: Save Apple Emails as EML Files

If you want to migrate certain emails from your Apple Mail mailbox to Outlook, you can save them as EML files. Here is what to do –

• Open Apple Mail (Mac Mail) on your Mac.
• Select all the emails that you want to migrate to Outlook.
• Click on File > Save As.

• A pop-up window will appear. Use the dropdown menu against Format and select Raw Message Source. This will save the selected Apple Mail emails as EML files.

The above workaround of saving Apple Mail emails as EML files has certain limitations to it. These are –

• It is a time-consuming method.
• It is limited to just saving emails.
• Imported EML files in Outlook sometimes fail to generate any preview.
• It is inefficient to migrate a large number of emails.
• Attachments may not be included with some emails.

Method 2: Export Apple Mail Mailbox as MBOX

If you want to migrate various mailbox items like contacts, calendar events, etc., along with emails, then the best way to do so is to save the mailbox items as an MBOX file. Then transfer the MBOX file to a Windows PC and use a mailbox convertor tool to convert MBOX to Outlook importable PST file format.

Once the process is complete, you will see the Apple Mail mailbox items in Outlook.

Conclusion

There is no direct way to convert Apple Mail to Outlook. As a workaround, you can save Apple Mail emails to EML files, transfer them to Windows system where Outlook is installed, and then drag and drop the EML files into Outlook. However, this method is feasible when you need to transfer only a few emails.
