This error can occur due to many reasons. Since the error description is not elaborate, finding the root cause can be difficult, and hence, you may have to try different solutions to see which one fixes the problem for you.

In this article, we will look at the likely causes of the 0x800ccc0e error and how you can fix them.

Causes of Outlook Error 0x800ccc0e

Some likely causes of 0x800ccc0e error are:

  • Poor or no Internet connectivity.
  • Conflict with antivirus or firewall.
  • SMTP authentication issue.
  • Incorrect port numbers.
  • Corrupt Outlook profile.
  • Corrupted PST file.

Now that you know the causes, let’s see how you can resolve this error.

Solutions to Fix Outlook Error 0x800ccc0e

The solution depends on the cause of the problem. That said, here are some solutions you can use to resolve this error.

Solution #1: Check Network Connectivity

Check if you are connected to the Internet. If there are connectivity issues, you can restart the router and the device. Otherwise, reach out to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to fix the problem.

Alternatively, check if your Outlook’s offline working settings as this can prevent connectivity.

Navigate to Send/Receive. On the top ribbon right-hand corner, look for an option called Work Offline.

If the background of “Work Offline” is shaded, it means you’re not connected. Click on the Work Offline and the background will turn to white, indicating that you are online. Restart Outlook to see if this fixes the problem.

Solution #2: Check your Firewall and Antivirus

Sometimes, changes to your antivirus and firewall settings can prevent Outlook connectivity, resulting in this IMAP error.

Check the manufacturer’s guidelines to adjust the settings and allow Outlook to send and receive messages. In the case of a firewall, you can even disable it for a few minutes to understand if this is causing the problem for you. Adjust the settings and make sure to turn on the firewall.

Solution #3: Turn On SMTP Authentication

Sometimes, email accounts that use IMAP servers require authentication, and you can face this error when your Outlook is unable to authenticate the outgoing SMPT server.

To fix this issue, turn on the SMTP authentication. To do this:

  1. Navigate to File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
  2. On the Email tab, select the email account, and click Change.

  1. In the pop-up window that opens, click on the “More Settings” button to open the Internal Email Settings window.
  2. In the pop-up window, click the Outgoing Server tab.
  3. Check the “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” option if it’s not already checked.
  1. Click OK and restart Outlook.

If the error was related to your SMTP authentication, the above steps should fix it for you.

Solution #4: Change the Incoming Port Number

The incoming port number must be 993 if you have enabled encryption and 143 if you have not enabled encryption. If the port numbers are different, Outlook can throw this error.

Follow the below steps to reset the port number to 993 or 143.

  1. Navigate to File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
  2. Similar to the previous step, select the email account, click Change, and click on the “More Settings” button.
  3. In the pop-up window, select the Advanced tab.
  4. Under Server Port Numbers, set the IMAP port number.
  1. Click OK and restart Outlook.

These steps should resolve misconfigured ports.

Solution #5: Create a New Outlook Profile

A corrupted Outlook profile is another potential cause of the 0x800ccc0e error. The workaround for this error is to create a new Outlook profile

The steps to create a new profile are:

  1. Go to File > Account Settings > Manage Profiles
  2. Choose Show Profiles > Add.
  3. Enter a name for your profile and click OK.

Now, try accessing Outlook through your new profile.

Solution #6: Repair the Corrupted PST File

If none of the above solutions work, the reason could be because of a corrupted Personal Storage Table (PST) file. There are many ways to fix this corruption.

One option is to use Microsoft’s built-in repair tool called Scanpst. This file is present in your Outlook installation folder. Simply double-click this file to run it.

Once the tool opens, select the corrupted PST file. Click the Start button to begin the scan. The tool can take a few minutes to scan, depending on the size of your PST file.

If the scan finds errors, it will list them for you. Accordingly, you can choose to Repair them by clicking the Repair button on the right-hand bottom.

You can even choose to create a backup of the corrupted file before starting the scan process. You will get a notification after the repair is completed.

Now, open Outlook and see if the error is fixed.

However, it’s important to note that Scanpst.exe has many limitations. It is not effective in the following scenarios.

  • When the corruption is moderate to severe.
  • Accessing the recovered data is not easy.
  • There’s always a chance for data loss.

Sometimes, you will have to run this utility multiple times to fix the problem.

In many cases, the problem can remain unfixed even after running Scanpst many times. In such scenarios, go for a third-party tool called Outlook PST repair tool such as Stellar Repair for Outlook that can repair your corrupted PST file and also extract its contents safely. This tool guarantees data integrity and even maintains the hierarchy of the folder structure. Moreover, you have the option to select the specific email items to recover and move them to another file format like PST, EML, MSG, HTML, PDF, and RTF. Its rich GUI enhances the user experience as well.

Conclusion

To conclude, Outlook error 0x800ccc0e is a common one and can occur due to many reasons, ranging from misconfigured ports to corrupted PST files. In this article, we looked at the different causes and ways to fix them.
