Deloitte TV spot takes potential customers to a house M.C. Escher would have loved

What starts off as a very straightforward scene with a young businesswoman in a typical boardroom soon turns into a topsy-turvy journey that’s all about Deloitte trying to open up business professionals to unexpected possibilities.

The consulting giant’s latest TV commercial appears to be inspired by the work of the late Dutch artist M.C. Escher, whose mathematically-inspired woodcuts, lithographs, and mezzotints connected staircases and other elements in mirror-like ways. In a voiceover, the 30-second spot’s narrator encourages prospective customers not to limit their thinking but look at problems from multiple angles — “left, right and sideways.” As she continues to walk through the unusual home, other people in the commercial show nothing is truly what it seems.

“With Deloitte, possibility isn’t just something you’ll see — it’s all you’ll see,” the narrator says, ending up in a room that closely recalls the “Infinity Room” of mirrors created by another artist, Yayoi Kusama.

With a tagline of “Only See Possible,” the clip, which is informally titled “Consider The Possibilities,” represents a departure of sorts from Deloitte’s more recent TV spots. Late last year, for instance, the company ran a TV campaign that made much more specific references to technologies such as AI, blockchain and the concept of smart cities.
