Five Safety Tips for Working in Construction

One of the riskiest industries to ever be qualified is construction. Not only are you around Power Tools all the time, but you are off to work at a height with other people who you may not know. While there’s nothing wrong with working at the heights, if you don’t trust the people that you work with it’s going to be a very difficult thing for you to do.

Heavy machinery, powerful tools, and sometimes – unstable terrain – is just a sample of the unavoidable dangers that you may come across when you are working in construction. Other than having the phone number of a very good construction accident lawyer, you also need to learn the risks. Once you know more about the risk by being on a construction site, you can do better and work safer. Here are five safe tips for working in construction.

  • Make sure that you have an induction. You might be in the industry for very many years, but you may not be in the same company for that long. That means that you need to make sure that you have a reduction at every worksite. Every single worksite that you go on is different, which means that you need to be able to be introduced to the specific risks involved, and any requirements of the site that you are expected to work on. Your management team should also ensure that you have the correct training and qualifications to even be there in the first place.
  • Load up with personal protective equipment. You should never be on any website without personal protective equipment. It’s one of the most important things that you need on a construction site from eye protection and helmets to steel capped boots and hearing protection. You deserve to feel safe in your work face and if there is any point you don’t, you need to speak to management about it as soon as possible.
  • Personal care supplies. It can take a toll on your mind and body to work in the beating sunshine, all the pouring rain. When you’re spending your day pushing your body to its limits, it can be very draining. You need to make sure that you have extended personal care supplies, this can be anything from sunscreen and hand degreaser to moisturizers, communal water supplies, snacks and even hygienic toilets. So should also be cut off limits depending on the weather outside. Healthy workers are happy workers and a happy worker is much more productive and less likely to hurt themselves.
  • You need to ensure that you are respectful. A workplace that is inclusive of all workers and supports all the team is one that is working. You need to ensure that you are respectful and you have a good attitude to the workplace, because otherwise you’ll be vulnerable to a safety issue for yourself and for others.
  • Have the right tools. There is no use in having a workplace that doesn’t have the right tools, and if you are not being given the right tools for the job then you need to speak up.
