B2B News for Friday, April 22, 2022: The Earth Day Edition-Businesses Investing in Our Planet

Last updated on April 24th, 2022 at 08:44 pm

Today is Earth Day. This is a special edition where we put aside the acquisitions, appointments, events, and studies to highlight businesses that are investing in our planet. Edison once said ” There is a way to do it better-find it”.

Smart companies realize it is not just about discussing climate change but finding ways to make this a better planet. They are actively making sustainable changes and are active investors in making our planet better. Today we highlight several businesses that are leading the way.

Stripe Climate launched in October 2020, lets its customers join its carbon-removal strategy by contributing a percentage of their digital sales that flow through Stripe’s software. In spring 2021, Stripe adjusted its onboarding process to allow new customers to join the program. Soon, one in 10 was opting in. Tens of thousands of businesses are now part of Stripe Climate.

Twelve, a start-up, is converting carbon pollution into ingredients for products that are currently made from fossil fuels—from plastic to jet fuel. Some of their current partners include the Air Force and Proctor & Gamble. The startup’s carbon-transformation process uses a metal catalyst and renewable energy to break CO2 and water molecules into smaller atomic bits and then re-form them into new chemicals that can be used in manufacturing.

Airbnb is a global community based on connection and belonging, where hosts and guests can be catalysts for sustainable activity in their communities. It is already matching 100% of corporate electricity with renewable energy and is committed to a net-zero corporate footprint by 2030.

Watershed, a fairly new company that launched in 2021 is already helping other businesses aggressively meet their sustainability goals. They supply everything needed for a world-class climate program including rigorous carbon accounting which allows companies to know their carbon footprints in weeks not months. Companies can then turn those numbers into trackable actions.

Populous creates beautiful spaces. It recently created the $1.15 BILLION Climate Pledge Arena. The Climate Pledge arena in Seatlle will be the first arena to earn a net zero carbon certification from the International Living Future Institute.

While we have only highlighted 5 companies today, there are many who are investing in our planet. Let us know on our social platforms your favourite companies and how they are investing in the planet.

Looking for something to watch this weekend as you celebrate Earth Day?

We highly recommend watching The Magnitude of All Things. The Magnitude of All Things opened at VIFF 2020, won the Best Canadian Feature Award at Planet in Focus and the Audience Choice Award at DocLands in California. It also screened at RIDM (Montreal), IDFA (Amsterdam), Cinequest (San Jose), among many other festivals. It is available till April 28 at midnight.
