In a new Accenture survey, 61% of Canadian executives say that the shift to the metaverse is likely to have a positive impact on their businesses. 30% say it will be “breakthrough” or “transformational,” according to the Technology Vision 2022 report that looks at how innovations are redefining the relationship between people and technology.
Accenture’s technologists project that the world will become programmable, meaning the digital world infuse into the physical world, with customization and automation will be fully absorbed into it. As one example, Gucci recently sold a virtual-only digital twin of its purse for a higher price than the real-world counterpart.
AR and digital twin technology will be key elements of the programmable world. 100% of Canadian executives surveyed report that their organization would consider using AR in the next three years. Other preductions include:
· 2024: Major supermarket chain launches AR app allowing customers to overlay products with filters of customized information such as allergens or sustainability ratings.
· 2025: Manufacturer announces new automotive assembly line controlled and reconfigurable through digital twin platform.
· 2029: Paris Fashion Week features a colour-changing clothing line made from smart materials.
· 2031: Most schools provide students with AR glasses to improve learning outcomes.
· 2037: Buildings over 30 stories are required to use programmable steel which absorbs impact, self-heals and can be reprogrammed for remodeling.
